Ladder Project

So, for the last little while I've been looking for a ladder because I knew I'd need one for doing the plywood on the roof and the shingles. I didn't really want to pay $70-80 for an 8 foot ladder and so I decided to build one tonight. It actually turned out great!

I spaced the rungs 12" apart and put a 15 degree slope on them so the rungs would be level with the ground when it's leaned up against something. I measured the slots for the rungs out and then set my circular saw to 1/2" depth and cut two lines for the inset. Then I took my wood chisel and chiseled out the inset for each rung. I wanted the ladder to be wider at the bottom so the rung on the bottom started at around 18" and went down to 16". I got this ladder built for about $7-8!
Just a close up detail of the rungs. I also took each rung and ran it through the table saw at a 15 degree angle so they wouldn't poke out of the front of the ladder. Just a little detail but I'm picky with how I do things. :)
